This is your complete guide to chakras. In total, there are 114 chakras, but the 7 main chakras are the most commonly recognized. Our body is not only made up of the physical body, we have an energy that extends beyond our physical presence. Our bodies are made up of four distinct parts, physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. And yes, we all have subtle energy points and centers in the human system. Our chakras.  The healing ancient traditions indicate that the chakras are not directly connected to the body’s organs. However, in the modern world people associate them with the physical body, and the chakras are linked to the body organs, junction points, spine, glands, and the nerve plexuses. In non-dual awareness, the physical body is just the product of the chakras.  Chakra in Sanskrit means “wheel” and each chakra radiates a specific color and frequency. The chakra system distributes the flow of prana or energy throughout our subtle bodies to keep spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical health in balance. Chakras that are too active or too inactive are never healthy.  When any of these energy centers are blocked, overactive, or underactive, it leads to stagnation and can contribute to a variety of ailments. When our main seven chakras are open and balanced, energy can flow freely.

Muladhara – The Root Chakra

The first chakra is associated with the color red and the musical Note C. The Root Chakra, called Muladhara, is located at the base of the spine. Muladhara in Sanskrit means foundation and is associated with the earth element. It is characterized by the emotions of survival, stability, ambition, and self-sufficiency. The Root Chakra is a survival center, making it the most mechanic of all chakras. Our modern work cultures lead us to spend more time indoors, which makes us lose touch with nature and the earth. If the Root Chakra is out of balance, one may feel uncertain, ungrounded, fearful, insecure, and frustrated. However, if this chakra is balanced, many of these feelings are replaced by more earthy tones, and one feels grounded, balanced, and confident with a strong connection to the Earth. To make a long story short, we stand with both feet on the ground.

Svadhishthana – The Sacral Chakra

The second chakra is associated with the color orange and the musical Note D. The Svadhishthana Chakra is located in the lower abdomen, about four fingers below the navel. Its attributes include the basic need for sexuality, as well as creativity and self-worth. The Sacral Chakra enables us to shape our desires. As the center of passion, the Sacral Chakra awakens the power of creation. It plays an active role in our sexuality and the expression of our emotional needs in intimate relationships. When the sacral chakra is imbalanced, a person may feel irritable, bored, sense a lack of creativity, feel manipulative, sexually not attracted, asexual, or sexually repressed. When balanced, it makes one feel more vibrant, creative, sexually active, satisfied, compassionate, and intuitive.  In short, if creativity and sexuality mean saying yes to life, then we should be able to remain creative and sexual until the day we die.

324Hz / 162Hz

Manipura – The Solar Plexus Chakra

The third chakra is associated with the color yellow and the musical Note E. The Solar Plexus Chakra is located in the upper abdomen, between the breastbone and the navel. This chakra is sometimes called the personal power chakra because it is associated with our emotions, self-esteem, autonomy, and determination. When this chakra is balanced and unblocked, we feel more empowered and have a clearer view of our present and future goals. When this chakra is blocked or unbalanced, we may experience poor self-esteem or we overcompensate for our lack of confidence by being overly aggressive and dominant. The Solar Plexus chakra can become misaligned if we experience failure in our relationships and social interactions. In short, just do stuff.

364.5Hz / 182.25Hz

Anahata– The Heart Chakra

The fourth chakra is associated with the color green, though sometimes it may be shown as pink, and the musical Note F. The Heart Chakra, or Anahata, meaning not harmed in Sanskrit, is located in the center of the chest. It comes as no surprise that the heart chakra is all about our ability to love and show compassion. It governs our ability to create and connect with more love in our lives. The Heart Chakra is the home of self-love. When this chakra is working properly and aligned, we find that we feel open, loved, and loving, and that unconditional love flows easily through us. We can experience more peace within ourselves and the people around us. When the heart chakra is blocked or unbalanced, our relationships will manifest as dysfunctional relationships. In short, the only lasting beauty is the beauty of the heart.

384Hz / 192Hz

Vishuddha – Throat Chakra

The fifth chakra is associated with the color azure blue and the musical Note G. The Throat Chakra is located at the base of the throat. The throat chakra is related to the expression of ourselves and speaking our truth. Sanskrit’s name vishuddha means pure or purification. The Throat Chakra restores the energy by detoxifying the impurities from the body and mind. When the throat chakra is in balance, our communication with others will be effortless, pure, and natural. However, when the throat chakra experiences misalignment, we may struggle with keeping secrets or not be able to express ourselves purely, clearly, and directly. The Throat Chakra is responsible for all our body parts located between our nose and chest, but especially for the throat, mouth, and ears. Physical symptoms of a blocked throat chakra include pain in the neck, sore throats, stuttering, or mouth ulcers. In short,  it is truth-telling, truth-speaking, truth-living, and truth-loving.

432Hz / 216Hz

Ajna – Third Eye Chakra

The sixth main chakra is associated with the color indigo blue and the musical Note. Ajna means to perceive, command, or beyond wisdom in Sanskrit. The Third Eye Chakra is located in the center of the forehead between the eyebrows. This chakra relates to our ability to understand and visualize the bigger picture in life. It governs our intuition and potential psychic abilities. Unlocking or balancing the third eye chakra nurtures intuitive ability and improves memory and imagination. When your third eye chakra is blocked or unbalanced, you may experience feelings of worthlessness, doubt yourself, or not be receptive to a wide variety of ideas. In short, I close my eyes to see.

486Hz / 243Hz

Sahasrara – The Crown Chakra

The seventh chakra is associated with the color violet and the musical Note B. The crown chakra can be found at the top of the head. Sahasrara from Sanskrit can be translated as a Thousand petals. The Crown Chakra is associated with understanding that can’t be described or named with words. The message behind the words is the voice of our heart, unity, and interconnectivity of all things. Sahasrar is not a physical space. We can not stay there for too long. If we do, we cannot be functional in terms of human activity, unless we are highly experienced in meditation or living within a shamanic culture. It is a world between physical and non-physical. A balanced crown chakra allows us to be in harmony and spiritual peace and connects us to a higher consciousness or state of being. A crown chakra that is unbalanced or blocked may cause us to feel lost, deeply confused, and disconnected in life. In short, keep your feet on the ground and your head in the clouds.
